Classes

1x1 Yoga

1x1 Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy

People tell me this is the slowest yoga class they’ve been to.  For sure, the slower and simpler the class the quieter the mind vibe is at the end.  Less has always been more in my experience, and the simpler the better for the very complicated times we live in.

Slow and subtle powerfully influences your energy, with all the calming and uplifting benefits of improved mental efficiency, balanced emotions and flexible strength.

If you are tense, tired, or overwhelmed, starting the menopause, retired, and seeking an opportunity for a deeper understanding of life and belonging, spaciousness, and the expanded awareness that arises within stillness, these friendly mature groups will be a support.

I work seasonally aligned to the 5 elements of Yoga and Ayurveda and create context with the enduring wisdom and science of the vedas (the ancient texts).   Yoga is a practice imbued with the inspiring and motivating spiritual philosophy and psychology for self realisation, and constantly reminds us that the clarity of direct, fresh experience is the aim and trumps second hand learned knowledge.

The practices are progressive and to be safe and effective often have preliminary stages and preparation, so regular attendance is required. These classes are not suitable for casual participation. There are no classes on Bank Holidays.

    Ayurvedic YOGA therapy

You may need to work with me privately. For yoga to be yoga therapy, the intention is to recover from injury, healing after surgery, from ill health, for an on-going health concern or an ailing spirit. This might sound obvious but worth saying because the principles are the same, it is the aims which are defined. Physical and mental therapy is one of yoga’s most important achievements in field of healing.

A bit of science

A bit of science

Hatha Yoga is a means to balance, and allowing harmony in our approach and attitude to life.  Yoga understands that all conflict within us, and in our relationship with the world has to be understood, and integrated if we are to function at our greatest capacity in thought, creativity and perception.  For example, stress and burn out, oppose lethargy and indifference within the nervous system.  Left brain analytical thinking and logic appose right brain mood, emotion and intuition.

Here are a few more examples of conflicting aspects within us…. happiness/sadness, hyperactive/fatigue, overactive/foggy mind, physical strength/weakness, intense/no-emotion, conformity/rebellion, hope/despair, no-ambition/ambition, caution/courage, receptivity/resistance to influence, holding on/letting go….

How do we navigate these polarities?  How do we moment to moment navigate between self-confidence and being humble and gracious, without swinging from one to the other?  Do we choose to make things happen, constantly pushing and stressful, or let things happen, becoming complacent and even lazy?  How are we to know what is appropriate?

Hatha Yoga awakens awareness in a deeper level of our being which encompasses and transcends these opposites, preparing the ground for deeper states of relaxation, reflection, and meditation.
